STRATEGY POINTS
At MHC, our ministries focus on following God’s lead to love both our church community and the wider neighborhood. We aim to live out Jesus’ command to love our neighbors as ourselves in everything we do.
PRAYER WALKING
We’re in a spiritual battle, and we need all the help we can get. Prayer walking is a way to get involved—just walk through the streets of Murray Hill and pray for the people you see. Pray that they find a connection with Jesus, that their needs are met in a way that clearly shows God’s involvement, and that God does amazing work in their lives.
OPEN HOMES
This idea originally came from a strategy used in Wales, where missionaries would invite people into their homes for meals to build relationships. Here, we’re taking that concept further by extending it to different kinds of gatherings, like block parties, to connect with our neighbors and build community.
MINISTRY OF HANGING OUT
A big part of mission work is meeting people where they are. While many church activities focus on drawing people in with cool events, this approach is about going out into the community. We get involved in local activities like volunteering at the ballpark or elementary school, joining the walking club, participating in community gardening, supporting the preservation association, helping out with the Friends of the Murray Hill Library, and attending Nights on Edgewood.
MINISTRY OF COMMON INTERESTS
Community and children are key connections for us at Murray Hill. Beyond events like Murray Hill-O-Ween and the Community Egg Hunt, our partnership with Upson Elementary is another important thread that ties us to the Murray Hill community.
MEETING NEEDS
This approach is about identifying needs in the community—especially around shared interests—and figuring out how to address them. Whether it’s helping with rebuilding after fires or providing food and clothing through the Helping Hands Thrift Store, MHC is committed to assisting with any other needs we can.
VERBAL WITNESS
The ultimate goal is to share the incredible news that God wants an eternal relationship with everyone. We aim to show people how to connect with Him and live as part of Jesus’ Kingdom. Through building relationships with those we haven’t yet met, we create opportunities to share this message with them.
