STRATEGY POINTS

The ministries of MHBC center around obedience to God's moving and working to love the church body and the community in a way that reflects Jesus' command to love our neighbors as ourselves.

  • PRAYER WALKING

We must remember that we are in the midst of a spiritual war, and we cannot win without help. Prayer walking is simply walking through the streets of Murray Hill and praying for the people; that they would find a relationship with God through Jesus; that their needs would be met in such a way that they know God was the One who intervened; and for specific houses asking God to do a great work in their lives.

  • OPEN HOMES

This concept rose from a strategy for missional connection in Wales, the idea was to invite people into the missionary’s home for a meal and, by doing so, build relationships. In our context, we are expanding that sharing of a meal into other ways (e.g. block parties) that we can meet and connect with our neighbors.

  • MINISTRY OF HANGING OUT

One key of mission work is to go where the people are. Most things we do in church are attractional—we are doing something cool and awesome, so come hang out with us—while the idea behind this part of the strategy is to go to the people. These activities include volunteering at the local ball park and elementary school, the walking club, community gardening, preservation association, Friends of the Murray Hill Library, Nights on Edgewood, etc...

  • MINISTRY OF COMMON INTERESTS

Community and children are two of the common threads that connect us to the Murray Hill community. Beyond the Murray Hill-O-Ween and Community Egg Hunt, the relationship between MHC and Upson Elementary are all threads woven into the fabric that is the Murray Hill community.

  • MEETING NEEDS

This is simply finding needs in the community, primarily focused around the common interests, and figuring out how to meet those needs. Whether it has been rebuilding after fires, to hunger with the distribution of food and clothing at the Helping Hands Thrift Store. MHC would like to help with anything else that is within our capabilities to assist.

  • VERBAL WITNESS

The ultimate goal, then, is to share with people the greatest news ever, that God wants to have an eternal relationship with them. The goal is to share with people how to have that relationship and live as a part of the Kingdom of Jesus.  Because in the previous steps we have been building relationships with people we do not yet know.
